Her Story
From award-winning poet to meditation teacher. From festival producer to sustainable business leader. From spiritual activist to psychotherapist. Here are my stories.
Part 1.
I have always been a seeker. My childhood was spent between library shelves and desert stars; a bookworm who lived in a caravan.
In 2007 I graduated Griffith University with a degree in International Relations (yep, heal the world kid), majoring in Language and Linguistics. After years globetrotting, I took a creative writing course at RMIT that launched a long career in the arts.
As a poet, performer, and producer until 2016, I created full length stage shows, intimate interactive installations, and large scale public events. I won numerous writing awards and featured at festivals including Brisbane Writers Fest, Womadelaide, QLD Poetry Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, and more. I worked as Associate Producer of Adelaide Fringe, Qld Coordinator of the Australian Poetry Slam, and Arts Writer for Australian Stage.
In recent years I’ve returned to my creative practice, publishing Micro Dose Poetry and performing my first full length feature performance in a decade, Ephemera.
Part 2.
Eternally driven by an innate curiosity about philosophy, nature, and the human mind, in 2012 I began drifting deeper into yoga and meditation practices. Now an E-RYT 500, I’ve since studied extensively with world leading teachers including advanced trainings with Sarah Powers, five years with Duncan Peak, 800hrs Yogic History, Literature and Philosophy with Georg Feuerstein, and most recently a two year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. I’m currently training with the Insight Meditation Institute Australia.
In 2016, with my partner in business (and love) Triton Tunis-Mitchell, we opened Human.Kind (then Power Living), on unceded Kaurna Land in Adelaide, S.A. This became a platform for movement classes, therapies, education, and belonging for a vast community that now spans the globe. My daily life still orbits this heart-home where I run courses, trainings, and retreats, as well as pursuing social, environmental and spiritual activism. We are proud to recently become a certified B-Corp, and in 2022 I received South Australia’s 40 Under 40 Award, for being a leading business trailblazer.
Part 3.
Today, my practice and study is focused on the contemplative traditions of meditation and wise action. Guided by both the Theravada Buddhist lineage, and contemporary secular practices including MBSR, MSC, and Interpersonal Neurobiology. I’m privileged to sit numerous silent retreats each year and am emerging as a dharma teacher in the Insight Meditation community. Alongside this, I’m undertaking a research Masters in Counselling & Psychotherapy at Adelaide University.
In 2023 Triton and I launched a new landcare and community health project at Myponga, SA: The Circular Initiative.
I aspire to keep living in the confluence of creativity, spiritual inquiry, and activism. Poised gracefully on life’s tightrope of beauty and chaos, offering wisdom and solace to all beings in our tender and beautiful world.
